Santa Cabrini Hospital is among Canada's premier hospitals, noted for its leadership in cancer care. Founded in 1960, the hospital has a staff of over 1500 and 175 doctors, with the mission of delivering the best in healthcare services to their patients.

To attract the most skilled healthcare professionals in every discipline by offering them a hospital environment with the most advanced technology available — thereby offering patients the most excellent care possible. They wanted to further increase efficiency through the use of wireless communications, but they also demanded reliability, performance and the right features for their particular environment.

Nortel worked with Bell as Santa Cabrini's primary solutions integrator, and delivered a 'clinical grade'  Healthcare solution  for the hospital, including:

• A unified voice and data network that includes Nortel's  Communication Server 1000  for both traditional voice and VoIP,
• Nortel  WLAN 2300 series , along with the Nortel  WLAN IP Telephony Manager 2245  for integration of voice over WLAN while ensuring QoS capabilities.
• Nortel WLAN Handset 2200,  WLAN Handset 6100 series  and  IP Phone 1100  for staff in the hospital's new emergency facility, with plans to soon offer them throughout the hospital.
• Nortel  CallPilot  for unified messaging.
• Nortel  Ethernet Routing Switch 8600s at the core, as well as Ethernet Routing Switch  1600s ,  5510s ,  4500s  with Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Ethernet Switch 470s .

• A centralized architecture with advanced features for a secure, cost-effective, resilient and highly scalable infrastructure: Santa Cabrini is running wired and wireless VoIP, data, wireless patient monitoring and wireless electrocardiogram devices on one unified network.
• Wireless communications enable more advanced services, greater efficiency and increased accessibility – instant access to information systems and resources at bedside improves overall productivity, reduces cost and enhances patient care.
